Daily Poem
“Weekend Workshop”
by David Raphael Israel
Now Sunday dawns the cycle of seven days consumes us
no sooner have we emerged from sleep the world resumes us
I returned to LA from Bhopal fourteen years ago
the swaddle of time amuses us & then entombs us
I attend a weekend workshop on God Speaks & later
publications flowing from Meher’s chalkboard light illumes us
only fitfully in imagination long is the journey!
a million times we’re spit into the world! God wombs us
& rebirths us & he leads us everywhere we venture
& he finally draws us into his own delight he zooms us
into every corner of an imagined labyrinth
Raphael! in dust he waters us & brightly blooms us
For Ward Parks, PhD
(Occasioned by a seminar, “An Integrated Darshana: God Speaks in relation to Meher Baba’s discourse literature of the 1920s,” given by scholar & editor Ward Parks at Meherabode in Los Angeles.)
from Meher’s chalkboard: Baba having begun his silence in 1925, his extensive discourses over the following few years were written on a small chalkboard & read out aloud, sentence by sentence, by an attentive disciple. Notes of many lectures were jotted down by other disciples & have recently been edited by Parks & published by the Meher Baba Trust, in books such as Infinite Intelligence [2005], Meher Baba’s Tiffin Lectures [2017] & Creation & Its Causes [2022] – all appearing in print long after the works published during Baba’s lifetime (1894-1969) such as God Speaks (1955, 1973), his principal exposition. The seminar sketched an integrated view vis-à-vis the gnosis expressed in God Speaks & the formulations of Baba’s discourses from the 1920s.
